Univ of Washington Cherry Blossoms

Well, they’re officially in bloom on the University of Washington campus!! The coming of Spring in Seattle isn’t hailed by a silly ritual with an esoteric rodent. Instead, spring in Seattle is ushered in with the blossoming of the University of Washington Cherry Trees. Typically blooming in early April, the ancient Yoshino Cherry trees pictured below make for a glorious site.

Carkeek Park, located in the Pacific Northwest, is a lesser known park in an equally beautiful and diverse are of northern Seattle. This shot was processed from one of my first outings with my dSLR camera. I didn’t know to keep the aperture setting constant when bracketing my HDR photos, so this HDR photo was processed from a single RAW image that I copied twice.

Looking at willow trees often reminds me of an impressionist painting. It helps that they’re often found near bodies of water. The reflection and the tree’s low hanging branches have that wispy quality which the impressionist artists utilized.

HDR’s utilization of a larger rang of light allows for dynamic landscape photography to truly shine. HDR processing can also alter an image to look like a capture from some distant neon-colored planet. Still, there are times when all that weirdness and abstract HDR processing can come together amidst the chaos to create an unusual, and yet artistic and stunning composition.
