The cold and rainy spring in 2012 has meant the Yoshino cherry trees in the quad have been slow to show their colors. Well – last weekend they didn’t disappoint – and now this shot from Friday afternoon – another brisk but sunny April day – it looks as though this upcoming weekend will be the best time to see the trees at the height of their flower. The University of Washington cherry trees were planted in the 1950s – making some of them over 60 years old. That’s a shockingly long time for a Yoshino, which typically live no more then 30 years. That means these beautiful trees won’t be around forever – so if the weather stays nice – take a walk around the Washington campus and meander through the quad this weekend.
